Over the last 40 years, Massimo has released nearly 60 albums, each one delving into different sonic territory than the last. Funk, Italo disco, prog, yacht rock, darkwave, synth pop, Maxmex has it all. With a collection of drum machines and synthesizers, Massimo crafted a unique, signature sound centered around smooth Yamaha-DX7 keys, vintage drum machines, occasionally reverb and delay drenched vocals, and a distinct 1980s home recording tape hiss that soothes the soul.
It's impossible to summarize such a vast and varied discography into one simple "Best Of" compilation, so we did our best to focus in on Massimo's DIY beginnings within the first decade of his career. The selections you hear on this LP were drawn from the actual tapes he recorded on nearly 40 years ago and the tracklist was hand-selected with help from the man himself.
Utopia Unearthed is proud to present the first ever official vinyl release of Maxmex's music, as well as a cassette tape version for the Maxmex Heads who want to hear the music as it was originally presented.
